Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown is no conservative. He's a died in the wool liberal through and through. So imagine my surprise upon reading his latest op-ed in Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle (4th item down). If we as a state want to make a New Year's resolution, I suggest taking a good look at the California we have created. From our out-of-sync tax system t... (more)

WyBlog -- Your attention please, Swine Flu is now an Official National Emergency

Your attention please, Swine Flu is now an Official National Emergency President Obama has declared Swine Flu (H1N1) an Official National Emergency. Your chances of finding a CVS or Walgreens with a stock of vaccine remain abysmally low. Maybe next month, hopefully by Christmas, the supplies will finally reach our stores. Meanwhile, wash your hands and try not to get sick. If you do get sick, take comfort in knowing that your President cares about you. That is all. (more)

Guess who gets the shaft?Precisely one year ago, we lucky taxpayers took over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the mortgage finance giants that contributed mightily to the wild and crazy home-loan-boom-turned-bust. . . . According to the company’s most recent quarterly financial statement, the Treasury will, by Sept. 30, have handed over $45 billion to shore up the company’s net worth. . . . As a result of the Fannie takeover, taxpayers are paying millions of dollars in legal defense bills for three top form... (more)

WyBlog -- Sure, now Jon Corzine throws his buddies under a bus

So Jon Corzine is calling on all the politicians indicted last week to resign. Corzine's gubernatorial opponent Chris Christie said the same thing earlier in the week. The difference is, these are Corzine's pals, people he has lauded for their "exemplary" public service. Only last month Corzine headlined a politically star-studded swearing-in ceremony for Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano. Corzine lavished praised on his "good friend". Joe Doria, who actually did resign, is one of Corzine's oldest and clo... (more)

WyBlog -- Mitch McConnell puts a Sotomayor filibuster on the table

Last month I suggested that the GOP filibuster the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Yesterday on CBS's "Face that Nation" Sen. McConnell put the filibuster option on the table. "I have consistently opposed filibustering judges — did it during the Clinton years — but I lost that fight," McConnell said. "The Senate will filibuster judges. That precedent was established — ironically enough — on a Hispanic-American nominee in Miguel Estrada." Asked to clarify, McConnell confirmed ... (more)

My post on David Letterman being an absolute piece of excrement is collecting a lot of Google and Yahoo hits on "boycott Letterman" and "boycott Letterman's advertisers". Yes, I am suggesting that we should all boycott CBS and Letterman's advertisers. Apparently I am not alone. Redstate has the canonical list of Letterman's advertisers. They too are calling for a boycott. Hear, hear! It's important that we hit CBS and Letterman's enablers where it hurts, in their pocketbooks. Redstate has a list of his... (more)

NJ Transit broke ground yesterday on a new $8.7 billion rail tunnel to Manhattan. Vice President Joe Biden was on hand to provide his special brand of comic relief. Speaking to reporters he noted that the new tunnel from New Jersey to New York is "designed to provide for automobile traffic." Sorry Joe. It's a railroad. You know, like Amtrak? That sinkhole of federal subsidies you're so fond of riding to and from Delaware each week? You do know what a railroad is, don't you Joe? Do you see many cars shar... (more)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is leaving the door open to taxing health care benefits, something he campaigned hard against while running for president, according to senators who met with him Tuesday. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., raised the issue with Obama during a private meeting with the president and other Democratic senators and later reported the president's position: "It's on the table. Jon Corzine wanted to campaign with Vice President Joe Biden in West Orange tonight. There was only one problem; state employee unions planned to picket the event over Corzine's imposition of furloughs and wage freezes. The White House indicated that VP Biden would not cross a union picket line. Jon Corzine did what any politician in the pocket of the public employee unions would do — he folded like a cheap suit. A last-minute "compromise" was reached and the unions called off their protest. Presto! Joe... (more)
