Most Americans lucky enough to just keep their jobs since the recession started in December 2007 have paid a price for their good fortune by accepting smaller paychecks. Some Americans who have not paid that price include the members of the U.S. Congress, who saw their salaries increase by 5 percent from 2007-2009. (more)

Sometimes, dealing with the federal government is like buying a car. You know the sticker price, but when you actually pick up your car, you end up paying a lot of extra "make-ready fees" and "delivery costs." That's pretty much the way it has worked out since taxpayers picked up their 2009 US Government Economic Stimulus Plan. How much has it really cost, and what has it really accomplished? (more)

Is the Census Bureau Being too Nosey?

Thursday, August 26, 2010 8:03:04 AM GMT Wednesday, August 25, 2010 12:29:28 PM GMT
Seems the Republican National Committee (RNC) thinks the U.S. Census Bureau is being too nosey, calling their ongoing annual American Communities Survey a "dangerous invasion of privacy." Funny thing is that during 2010, the RNC conducted its own 36-question "census," and according to Government Watchdog Tom Murse, it was a lot more "nosey" than the official 10-question U.S. Census. In October 2008, Congress bailed out major U.S. financial institutions to the tune of $700 billion in taxpayer money. While some of the banks have actually started paying their bailouts back with interest, a new Congressional Oversight Panel report shows that the TARP bank bailout actually helped banks in foreign countries more than U.S. banks. 2010 Census Comes in $1.6 Billion Under Budget, But ...

Monday, August 16, 2010 5:36:24 PM GMT Friday, August 13, 2010 1:09:24 PM GMT
Months before we even know how many Americans they actually counted, the Census Bureau proudly announced that their 2010 Census cost taxpayers $1.6 billion less than expected. That's great, but for an agency dedicated to counting things accurately, the Census Bureau could have applied a little more perspective to its census cost accounting. For instance, the fact that despite achieving no improvement in response rate, Census 2010 cost twice as much as Census 2000. (more)
