Chomsky: Far-Right Threat Is No Joke | CommonDreams.org

Noam Chomsky, the world's leading dissident intellectual, has warned the grievances exploited by far-right extremists need to be taken seriously by their left-wing opponents. Speaking at the annual Amnesty International lecture in Belfast, Professor Chomsky noted: "There is now a mass of people with real grievances who want answers and are not receiving them. A common reaction in elite educated circles and much of the left is to ridicule the right-wing protesters, but that is a serious error. (more)

The Politics of Jamie Sanderson: South Carolina 2010 elections just got hotter

If it wasn't enough to have decades of Republican domination in South Carolina - which produces nothing for this state except for regression - then you better get active over the latest news. "As we've gone through this process, I've concluded, with the support of the White House and Senators. Dodd and Baucus, that the best way to move forward is to include a public option with an opt out provision for states," Reid said. That's right. The states can decide whether you have the public option or not... (more)

Well, this is a time where I was hoping not to be right. But, I told you so. When union members were presented a third proposal to put them back to work, they voted down the concessions. This type of stubbornness produces drastic results. ArcelorMittal-Georgetown will remain closed for the foreseeable future and may not open back at all. (more)

We're closer than ever to winning a historic victory on health care. I should know: I served as Secretary of Labor under President Clinton during the last health care fight. And I'm sure that this time around we're within reach of passing a real health care reform bill—one that includes a public health insurance option. Unfortunately, some conservatives in the Senate are still pushing a "trigger" plan that would kill the public option through indefinite delay. (more)

It has been documented all too well. The New York real estate tycoon and political ponzi hitman Howard Rich is starting to show his face again in South Carolina. Now, however, he's not in New York anymore. Our governor has had his eight years of reign with Rich's money. It's going to be very interesting to see who, or how many, Republican gubernatorial candidates Rich and friends support for 2010. (more)

Yes. Republicans. The ones who say they want to help the jobless, take care of the uninsured and make it easier on struggling families do just the opposite... As usual. When will people finally see through the rhetoric and actually pay attention to how they vote, which is not in favor of the common good. (more)

Congressman Henry Brown is at it again. In an attempt to thwart any momentum being gained on health care reform, Brown has sent out a colorful tri-fold brochure, with a miniature health care survey attached. And, as always, it is sent with your tax dollars fitting the bill, along with paying for the preparation and publishing. Brown is known for spending absurd amounts of your money on mailings. (more)
