The Obama administration is increasingly questioning the long-term stability of Tehran's government and moving to find ways to support Iran's opposition "Green Movement," said senior U.S. officials. The White House is crafting new financial sanctions specifically designed to punish the Iranian entities and individuals most directly involved in the crackdown on Iran's dissident forces, said the U.S. officials, rather than just those involved in Iran's nuclear program. I guess we can say that Iran was for allowing John Kerry in to the country, before they were against it. Iran denied John Kerry access. Iranian legislators on Sunday decided to not allow a visit from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-Mass.), according to Iranian media. “Members of the Iranian parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee (a subcommittee of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission) voiced opposition to the request after studying the issue,”... Sunday, January 03, 2010 5:15:19 PM GMT Saturday, January 02, 2010 7:41:37 PM GMT
It used to be that the Obama administration gave Iran deadlines on reaching agreement on nuclear fuel reprocessing. The most recent deadline was December 31. None of those deadlines meant anything, as the Iranians figured out long ago. That's the problem with deadlines, which Obama hasn't learned. Deadlines only mean something if the failure to meet the deadline has consequences. Now the Iranians have given us a deadline to reach agreement on their terms, or they will simply ramp up their own nu... (more)
