Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-La.) suggested Thursday that former Vice President Dick Cheney should tone down his criticism of President Barack Obama. Cheney has repeatedly criticized the president’s national security policy, saying recently on CNN’s “State of the Union” that Obama’s decisions “raise the risk to the American people of another attack.” Asked to respond to Cheney’s remark during an interview ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Jindal said: “I don't think we should question President Obama's patri... Matthews: Obama 'Wowed,' Jindal 'Odd,' DeLay Calls Chris 'Biased' | NewsBusters.org

Attempting to explain last night's off-camera "Oh God!" exclamation before Bobby Jindal's response to Barack Obama, Chris Matthews, at the top of Wednesday's "Hardball," claimed he was taken aback by "The odd, anti-bellum look of the scene. Some people heard my reaction at the time," which contrasted with his view of Obama's address: "He wowed us! That's the running headline from last night's presidential address to the Congress. Barack Obama gave a great speech." This naked display of bias was so transp... (more)

Bobby Jindal and Racial Stereotypes - The Plank

Boosters of Bobby Jindal's presidential prospects have suggested to me--correctly, I think--that his racial background could be less of a hurdle for white voters than Barack Obama's was because, as a South Asian American, Jindal would be perceived as a "model minority." Where racially nervous whites might look at Obama and think of some scary African American they saw on "The Wire," they'd look at Jindal and think of that nice young internist who took care of them while the family doctor was on vacation ... This is the Bobby Jindal Republicans are used to seeing and expected to see last night. This guy is a force to be reckoned with. I especially appreciate him telling Democrats they should read what's in their bill. Be sure to watch the whole video. (hat tip Steve Schippert) Update: For those who say this doesn't matter because no one will remember anything but Jindal's first impression last night, here is my response. First, watch the video before commenting. Regardless of what anyone thought of h... (more)

Revolt: Democratic Governors Join Republicans in Rejecting Stimulus Money on The Patriot Room

Chuck Schumer has been lecturing those uppity Republican governors like Sanford and Jindal that the Pork Feast Stimulus is not an a la carte menu. You'll take it all . . . and like it. Well, it seems to be turning into a bi-partisan revolt of sorts, now with Democratic Governors thumbing their noses at their Lord and Master, Senator Schumer. Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee and Gov. John Lynch of New Hampshire have joined the Republicans in the novel thought that they might like to run their own states... (more)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- It was billed as a "coming out party" for one of the GOP's most promising young stars. Gov. Bobby Jindal seemed "over-coached and over-rehearsed," CNN's Candy Crowley said. But after nearly universal criticism was heaped on Gov. Bobby Jindal's high-profile response to President Obama's address to Congress Tuesday night, the Louisiana Republican may be wishing he had stayed home. The criticisms came from all sides of the political spectrum, including from those in conservative... (more)

The American Spectator : Jindal's Perpetual Potential

Americans on Tuesday night had the chance to see in Governor Bobby Jindal what Louisianans have marveled at for 13 years now, ever since he became at 24 the director of the state health department: a bright, sincere, earnest, capable, conservative reformer with no apparent sharp edges. It's almost impossible not to like him -- but the question is whether he's fully ready to lead. Everybody knows that giving the minority party's "response" to a major presidential address is a tough, tough task. There'... (more)

Hot Air » Blog Archive » Video: Jindal’s “awful” rebuttal

“Awful” is Ace’s word but I’m in no mood to disagree. And neither are most HA commenters, judging from this mammoth thread. This was his star turn and he came off wooden, especially at the beginning. Oh well. His loss is the rest of the GOP governors’ gain. RCP has the clip of an unknown MSNBC staffer groaning “Oh God” as Jindal walks out. Some say it’s Olbermann, but I’m skeptical. Consensus? Update: Patterico’s sure the “Oh God” comes from Olbermann, Goldfarb’s sure it comes from Matthews. Does it ma... (more)

(CNN) — Tapped by the Republican party to deliver the GOP’s response to President Barack Obama’s congressional address Tuesday night, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal plans to take on the massive stimulus package and emphasize that the U.S. economy can recover. “To solve our current problems, Washington must lead,” Jindal will say, according to excerpts of his speech released by the Republican National Committee. “But the way to lead is not to raise taxes and put more money and power in he hands of Washing... Politik Ditto: Gov. Bobby Jindal To Deliver GOP Response To Obama State Of The Union

Great pick by the GOP. And I'm not saying that because of Jindal's race--Jindal is just smart enough to articulate the concerns most Americans have about BO's pork-filled stimulus plan that does nothing but subsidize failure. Plus, he doesn't listen to far-Right pundits who just disagree with whatever their peers on the Left say. Instead, Jindal offers solutions, isn't afraid to speak his mind (even it offends those within his own party) and he's backed up his stance on the stimulus package by refusing t... (more)

President Obama will have his biggest moment yet at 9pet, next to the Inauguration. He will address a joint session of Congress and millions of YOU across the USA, delivering a critical speech to the nation about the economy. This speech comes on the heels of signing the stimulus bill into law, and a new goal to halve the nation’s trillion dollar deficit. In other words: Spend! Cut! (more)

Here is Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Meet the Press yesterday where he explained his decision to reject a portion of the Obama Stimulus Plan money offered to Louisiana. Jindal makes it clear that the Federal Government borrowing money to spend today is only delaying the inevitable hard choices that State Governments, as well as the Federal Government, will eventually have to make. He’s a star in political circles, mentioned by members of both parties as a future presidential candidate, but when Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivers the Republican response to President Barack Obama’s Message to Congress on Tuesday, most Americans will be seeing him for the first time. It’s a prime opportunity for the 37-year-old state executive to introduce himself to the public and define himself as a leader of his party—and a potential contender for national office. “He’s somebody I think we’re ... In one fell swoop, he’s stolen Sanford’s thunder as stimulus critic-in-chief. Risky, but I like it. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Friday that he will decline stimulus money specifically targeted at expanding state unemployment insurance coverage, becoming the first state executive to officially refuse any part of the federal government’s payout to states… “The federal money in this bill will run out in less than three years for this benefit and our businesses would then be stuck paying the bill...
