Tuesday, August 10, 2010 2:23:13 PM GMT Monday, August 09, 2010 12:00:13 PM GMT
There's been a tremendous uproar in the social media world since AlterNet published a story accusing a group of influential social media users of actively engaging in political "censorship" on Digg.com, the popular social news network. Digg launched in 2004 based on a simple premise: users would submit stories to the site, and they would be voted up ("dugg") or down ("buried") by the people. The most popular stories would make Digg's front page, which boasts 25 million pageviews per month, on par wit... (more)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – WikiLeaks is at least morally guilty over the release of classified U.S. documents on the Afghan war, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Sunday, as investigators broaden their probe of the leak. The whistle-blowing website published tens of thousands of war records a week ago, a move the Pentagon has said could cost lives and damage the trust of allies by exposing U.S. intelligence gathering methods and names of Afghan contacts. Presidents stop at lots of random places to shake hands and pose for pictures — like sub shops in Edison, N.J. No one seems to mind that. But one of Obama’s other pit stops Wednesday has prompted much hand-wringing debate on blogs and cable news chat shows. Obama will be the first sitting president to appear on a daytime talk show with his appearance on ABC's "The View.” He sits down with the "View" team Wednesday for a show that will be broadcast Thursday. Appearing on Fox News' "Hannity" Wednesday night, Ann Coulter told Sean Hannity that Andrew Breitbart was "set up," meaning he was intentionally given a tape that misrepresented Shirley Sherrod's comments. As the video below shows, Coulter told Hannity: "The whole key to this story is that Andrew Breitbart was set up. He was sent a tape that, as we now know, was massively out of context. It did look like this woman was saying something racist. When she first said it was taken out of context . . . w... (more)

It was the moment of greatest peril for then-Sen. Barack Obama’s political career. In the heat of the presidential campaign, videos surfaced of Obama’s pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, angrily denouncing whites, the U.S. government and America itself. Obama had once bragged of his closeness to Wright. Now the black nationalist preacher’s rhetoric was threatening to torpedo Obama’s campaign. (more)

When you’ve lost the New York Times: The press traveling with Obama on the campaign never had a lovey-dovey relationship with him. He treated us with aloof correctness, and occasional spurts of irritation. Like many Democrats, he thinks the press is supposed to be on his side. The patrician George Bush senior was always gracious with reporters while conveying the sense that what we do for a living was rude. The former constitutional lawyer now in the White House understands that the press has a role i... (more)

There’s something soooooo familiar about this. You may remember during the second Lebanese war Reuters was caught making news pictures look worse than they were with a little touch of Photo Shop… Reuters is now doctoring its pictures from the violence aboard the Guerrilla Flotilla. For example, this picture appeared in a Turkish Newspaper. The guy on the ground in green is one of the Israeli commandos. Notice the red circle I added. It shows one of the terrorists on the flotilla boat holding a knife… (more)
