PrairiePundit: Should House Dems trust Senate Dems on health care?

As Republicans work to prevent a health-care bill from reaching President Obama, they are scrambling to exploit divisions between Democrats in the House and Senate. Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warned House Democrats that they would be taking a colossal risk if they approve the Senate's version of health-care legislation before the Senate had acted to remove some of the bill's most contentious provisions. Now that Democrats have lost their Senate supermaj... (more)

Thursday, March 11, 2010 1:01:38 PM GMT Wednesday, March 10, 2010 1:27:50 PM GMT
Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.) is taking his first big political punches from Democrats, a sign that the rising GOP star has graduated to the heavyweight division. The 40-year-old Ryan, with barely a speck of gray in his jet-black hair, has emerged as a talking point for President Barack Obama and a potential presidential contender for Republicans. His plan to balance the federal budget with a mix of proposals to partially privatize Medicare and Social Security has become Democrats’ piñata. (more)

Before there was a nationwide, grass-roots Tea Party movement, there was another nationwide, grass-roots movement that brought thousands of Americans to Washington, D.C. They called themselves the “Gathering of Eagles.” I covered two massive, GoE rallies against the Soros-funded, anti-war Left in March 2007 and September 2007. GOE activists continue to expose the transnational progressives, anti-military bullies, and phonies who operate under the “peace” banner. (more)

ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: Only hours after the Obama administration announced a record monthly budget deficit of $220 billion in February, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was beating back criticism from Republican lawmakers railing against the rising amount of red ink. “It just defies common sense for this administration to pretend that you’re paying any attention at all to deficit reduction,” Rep. John Culberson, R-TX, told Geithner. “It doesn’t square with reality.” (more)

Joe Sestak to "name names, name dates, name places" if he truly was offered a job by the Obama White House in order to drop out of the Pennsylvania Democratic Primary race. No one will be claiming a turnout of two million, but Howard Dean and company managed to draw a healthy crowd for their health care rally today in Washington’s Dupont Circle. About 500 people turned out this morning to push for health care reform and stand up against health insurance companies. The message of the rally? Health insurance companies and reform opponents should stop being greedy and help insure the millions of people who need health care. Organized by Health Care for America Now, a national... (more)

A new Democracy Corps/Third Way poll bills itself as a “wake-up call” for Democrats on national security. Last May, Democracy Corps found that Obama’s election had erased the Republicans’ traditional public opinion advantage on national security. What they’ve now found is that Obama maintains significant public support for his policies on foreign policy and national security, but the Democrats don’t. (more)

According to John McCormack, we can put Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) in the firm “no” column on the upcoming ObamaCare vote. Previously, Lipinski has been mentioned as part of Stupak’s coalition of previous votes in favor of ObamaCare that may flip to opposition because of the language regarding abortion funding. Lipinski confirmed that with the Weekly Standard: (more)

Le·gal In·sur·rec·tion: Step Back From The Edge Of The Shower, Mr. President

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 12:20:06 PM GMT Monday, March 08, 2010 11:48:01 PM GMT
The Obama administration has gone over the edge, and as we know from Eric Massa (formerly D-NY), all the way into the shower. The thought of a naked Rahm Emanuel confronting an equally naked Massa in the showers at Congress over a vote is too horrible to picture. When the White House Chief of Staff feels the need to confront members of Congress in the shower, the administration has lost its senses. Take a step back, Mr. President. Think about it Mr. President. Picture it. Then think about it ... (more)

This is the wackiest legislation I have ever seen. But it makes sense. Allow Democratic Senator Kent Conrad explain, in a column today in the Washington Post: “Reconciliation is not being considered for passing comprehensive health-care reform. Major health-care reform legislation passed the Senate without reconciliation on Christmas Eve. If the House now passes that legislation, it can go immediately to President Obama’s desk to be signed into law. What the president and others have suggested is that,... (more)

So there was President Obama giving his bazillionth speech on health care, droning yet again that “now is the hour when we must seize the moment,” the same moment he’s been seizing every day of the week for the past year, only this time his genius photo-op guys thought it would look good to have him surrounded by men in white coats. Why is he doing this? Why let “health” “care” “reform” stagger on like the rotting husk in a low-grade creature feature who refuses to stay dead no matter how many stakes ... (more)

Riehl World View: Pelosi's House Didn't Drain The Swamp, It Raised The Water Level To Conceal It!

What a clever ploy. How are they draining the swamp, read eliminating corruption in DC? Simple! Tighten disclosure rules, while loosening the definition of what constitutes quid pro quo corruption. Nothing to see here. Move along, ... even if the result is more corruption than ever. Pelosi's House didn't drain the swamp. They simply raised the water level to conceal it. The result will be a flood of corruption even larger than before. Change! (more)

The Battle over Government-Run Health Care is coming down to whether or not Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives will pass the Senate Health Care Bill as is. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin - told reporters today that she will NOT support the Senate Bill when it comes up in the House. Added to her announcement, Democrat Rep. Democrats plan "pain" for Republicans who seek to slow or block passage of healthcare legislation, Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) said Wednesday night. Brown said that if Republicans try to offer amendments and use parliamentary maneuvers to grind out the legislative process, Democrats would retaliate with all-night sessions and other methods of fighting back. "I think they're going to try to do amendments, as many as they can get away with," Brown said Wednesday evening during an appearance on MSNBC.... (more)

Democratic Retirements in Tough Districts to Defend -- Political Wire

Rep. Eric Massa's (D-NY) surprise retirement announcement yesterday was overshadowed by the controversy why he was leaving but it's important to note that he's the seventh House Democrat leaving a seat that Sen. John McCain won in the 2008 presidential election. While it's true that more House Republicans have decided not to seek re-election, the vast majority of them are from solidly Republican districts that shouldn't be too hard for the GOP to defend.
